What's Happening

PAF and PAN, which together have helped millions of patients afford medications through copay assistance, are combining into a single organization called TotalAssist. The official launch date is July 1, 2026.

How This Affects PrEP Patients

Both PAF and PAN have operated disease-specific funds that help patients with out-of-pocket costs for medications, including HIV prevention and treatment. If you've received copay assistance through either foundation, here's what to know:

Remember: Foundation copay assistance is a supplement, not a primary pathway. If you have insurance, PrEP should be $0 under the ACA mandate. If you're uninsured, manufacturer programs (Gilead MAP, ViiV) and telehealth (MISTR) are your primary options.

Don't rely solely on foundations

MISTR provides complete PrEP at $0 — no copay cards, no foundation applications, no annual renewals to manage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TotalAssist?
TotalAssist is the new organization formed by the merger of the Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) and the Patient Access Network (PAN), launching July 1, 2026. It consolidates copay assistance and patient navigation services.
Will my PAF or PAN grant still work?
Active grants are expected to transition to TotalAssist. Monitor communications from PAF or PAN for specific instructions.
Is TotalAssist the same as Gilead Advancing Access?
No. TotalAssist is an independent nonprofit foundation. Gilead Advancing Access is Gilead's manufacturer program. They serve different roles — TotalAssist covers copays across many diseases, while Gilead's program is specific to Gilead medications.
