Medicaid

Georgia has NOT expanded Medicaid. Georgia Pathways — a limited work-requirement-based alternative — covers far fewer people than full expansion would. Most childless adults cannot qualify.

Public health districts

17 of 18 Georgia public health districts provide PrEP medication at low or no cost to uninsured patients. Four districts cover full ancillary costs (labs, visits): North (Gainesville), Clayton (Jonesboro), Southeast (Waycross), and Northeast (Athens).

Know your rights

Minors

Georgia Code §31-17-7 allows minors to consent to STI testing and treatment. PrEP is not expressly covered. Georgia law does not permit minors to independently consent to HIV testing.

Undocumented residents

Georgia Pathways requires citizenship/legal residence. MISTR serves regardless of documentation. FQHCs (175+ Georgia Family Planning System locations) serve all patients. Gilead Advancing Access has no immigration requirement.

Transgender individuals

SB 140 (2023) bans gender-affirming care for minors. Trans-affirming PrEP providers include AvitaCare Atlanta, TRANScending Barriers Atlanta, and FOLX Health telehealth.
