What's Happening
PAF and PAN combined into a single organization called TotalAssist on July 1, 2026. Because disease-specific assistance funds can open and close as money becomes available, the organization itself being live does not mean every fund is accepting applications.
How This Affects PrEP Patients
Both PAF and PAN have operated disease-specific funds that help patients with out-of-pocket costs for medications, including HIV prevention and treatment. If you've received copay assistance through either foundation, here's what to know:
- Current status: The HIV, AIDS & Prevention fund is closed as of October 4, 2026.
- Fund availability can change: Foundation funds may reopen when new funding becomes available.
- Best next step: Join TotalAssist notifications and use manufacturer, insurance, state, or clinic-based assistance in the meantime.
Remember: Foundation copay assistance is a supplement, not a primary pathway. If you have insurance, PrEP should be $0 under the ACA mandate. If you're uninsured, manufacturer programs (Gilead MAP, ViiV) and telehealth (MISTR) are your primary options.
Compare PrEP access options
Telehealth providers, local clinics, state programs, Medicaid, and manufacturer assistance can all be valid routes. Compare cost, lab method, medication options, location, privacy, and follow-up instead of defaulting to one provider.

You generally only need third-party copay assistance if:
- You have insurance that's charging you for PrEP (which may violate the ACA — see our insurance guide)
- You're on a grandfathered plan not subject to ACA preventive services mandates
- You're on Medicare Part D and need help with costs before reaching the OOP cap
- Manufacturer copay cards don't cover your specific situation
