Editorial policy
How we research and update FreePrEP.org, how we fix mistakes, and the lines sponsors can't cross.
Our job
FreePrEP.org helps people in the United States get PrEP at no cost. We write for the person deciding what to do next, not for any provider, drugmaker or program.
Independence
FreePrEP.org is operated by Scout Theory LLC. We're not affiliated with any government agency, pharmaceutical company or telehealth provider. No provider has paid for coverage, placement or ranking on this site.
Where our information comes from
- CDC and HIV.gov guidance on PrEP, PEP and testing
- FDA prescribing information for Truvada, Descovy, Apretude and Yeztugo
- Manufacturer program pages, including Gilead Advancing Access and ViiVConnect
- State health departments, Medicaid agencies and state PrEP assistance programs
- HRSA's health center directory
- Nonprofit and policy groups such as Patient Advocate Foundation's TotalAssist, NASTAD and the HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute
- Each provider's own published prices and terms
- Peer-reviewed research
We link to our sources on the page whenever we can.
Keeping pages current
Every page shows when it was last updated. When we recheck a specific fact, like a program's status or a copay cap, we say so and give the date. Our program tracker shows the date we last confirmed each program. Program terms can change without notice, so we always tell readers to confirm with the program before applying.
Corrections
If something is wrong or out of date, email hello@freeprep.org with the page and a source if you have one. We fix factual errors promptly and note significant corrections on the page.
Sponsorship and advertising
- Sponsored placements are labeled "Sponsored" and kept visually separate from editorial content.
- Sponsors can't buy rankings, change the order of a comparison, review editorial content before it's published, or have accurate information removed.
- Paid links use rel="sponsored".
- We don't run third-party ad networks or advertiser tracking pixels.
- We can decline any sponsor. We don't accept ads for unapproved HIV prevention products or for offers that misstate what people will pay.
Details for organizations are on our advertising page.
Medical information
FreePrEP.org is not a medical provider and doesn't give medical advice. We explain access and cost. Decisions about starting, stopping or switching PrEP belong to you and a healthcare professional.
Possible exposure in the last 72 hours? PrEP won't help after the fact. Get PEP now.
How we cover providers
We cover the services readers ask about, whether or not we have any relationship with them. Read how we rate providers.
