Know Your Rights

Minor Consent

Alabama Code §22-8-4 allows minors 14+ to consent to medical services including STI testing/treatment. Threat: SB 101 (2025) would raise consent age to 18.

Gender-Affirming Care

SB 184 (2022) makes providing gender-affirming care to anyone under 19 a Class C felony (up to 10 years, $15,000 fine). First state with criminal penalties.

HIV Criminalization

Communicable disease exposure statute and "assault with bodily fluids" felony enhancement deter testing.

Undocumented Residents

HB 56 (2011) is among strictest anti-immigration laws nationally. MISTR requires no documentation. ALAC at AIDS Alabama provides Spanish-speaking staff: (205) 324-9822.
