Know Your Rights

Minor Consent

Mississippi defines age of majority as 21 (one of only 2 states). Minors can consent to STI/HIV testing but do not have clear rights to consent to PrEP or HIV treatment.

Gender-Affirming Care

HB 1125 (REAP Act, 2023) bans gender-affirming care for minors. Spectrum: The Other Clinic in Hattiesburg is the only trans-focused clinic in the state.

Rural Access

Most PrEP providers concentrated in 3 metro areas. Federal funding cuts in 2025 ended free STI testing at county health departments. Internet connectivity challenges compound telehealth barriers.

Undocumented Residents

MISTR requires no documentation. Gilead PAP has no immigration requirement. FQHCs serve all patients regardless of status.
